Play features British comedy, bed-hopping

For those looking for some simple humor, the Lansing Civic Players’ “Move Over Mrs. Markham” is set to deliver it. Billed as a “wild and zany free-for-all with lots of bed-hopping,” Ray Cooney and John Chapman’s production features nine cast members mixing up identities and popping on and off the stage with the speed that exemplifies a good farce. “You’re not supposed to overanalyze a farce, you’re just supposed to enjoy them,” director Judie Town said. Town, who has been involved in theater for 30 years, directed the play for the theater company 17 years ago with an entirely different cast. A British comedy much like Michael Frayn’s popular “Noises Off,” “Move Over Mrs. Markham” features four sets of couples converging on the same bedroom.

Fourth season of Sopranos promising for fans

Every semester, writers here at The State News are allowed two days off. So when I announced that I wouldn’t be working this past Sunday, my co-workers wondered why I was using one of my days so early in the semester. They asked me questions such as, “Are you going to a concert?” “Is your family having a reunion?” “Isn’t it too early for a test to study for?” “Did your dog die?” “No,” I told them.

Souljahz creates hip-hop, funk inspired rock

Here are the ingredients behind Souljahz: three attractive siblings, one love for God, inspirational modern music and a vibe that grabs on and makes you take notice. On its major label debut, 17-year-old Rachael Washington and brothers Je’Kob, 21, and Joshu’a, 22, produce a powerful Christian album that collides with modern music, fusing hip-hop, funk and Latin rhythms. Combining influences ranging from Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder to Wes Montgomery and the Fugees, Souljahz has created music beyond its years. Coming from San Diego, the threesome appeared at local churches and talent shows, garnering an amazing following and spawning such potential that their father sold his business to manage them. The album begins with the anthemic “Let Go,” which transitions between an R & B hook and a church choir vibe.
