Annual show to return to Union

Curtis Eller, marketed as “New York’s angriest yodeling banjo player,” will be performing at 9 p.m. Saturday at (SCENE) Metrospace, 110 Charles St.
A CD release party is being held for Lansing-based band As Bound With Them at 5 p.m. Friday at Mac’s Bar, 2700 E. Michigan Ave., in Lansing. The show is for all ages and will feature live performances from the band as well as guests Wilson, Of Virtue and Dagon.

“Jesus Christ Superstar,” the classic rock opera by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, premiered on Broadway in 1971. Two years later, the play was adapted into a film starring Ted Neeley as Jesus. Now, 37 years later, Neeley is reprising his title role as part of the “A.D. Tour.” The play will run at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Auditorium. The State News sat down with Amber Hurst-Martin, a disciple girl and understudy for soul singer, to discuss what it is like working on “Jesus Christ Superstar” with the show’s legend, Neeley.
Wednesday the Union was flooded with earfuls of improvisational jazz, and onlookers could not help but nod their heads to the beat along with the MSU jazz bands as they presented on stage from 12:30-7 p.m.

New Horizons Band is an opportunity for adults to play in a band whether or not they have experience with an instrument or not. The group will teach anyone interested how to play an instrument and read music in a fun learning environment. This semester there are 62 band members.
“South Pacific” will play at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 8 p.m. Friday, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday and 1 and 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets range from $31.50 to $67.50 for general admission. Student tickets are $27.50 and are available for the Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and 6:30 p.m. Sunday shows.
Apparel and textile design students loaded their hand-made sustainable designs onto a bus bound for Nashville, Tenn.
The new Lansing City Market, 325 City Market Drive, is now at 100 percent capacity with the exception of a restaurant. The market had a “soft opening” after the initial move from its previous location, 333 N. Cedar St., in January with only 25 percent to 50 percent of vendors in place.
“Rodgers & Hammerstein’s South Pacific” will be coming Tuesday Wharton Center on where it will run through May 2.
