Roddick has chance to be greatest ever

He's been called "the great American hope," but his Grand Slam performances until Sunday have been just another choke. Two things are markedly clear about Andy Roddick: He's not a great champion like Pete Sampras, but he's also not Anna Kournikova, despite the Rolling Stone photo shoots. He's more like Roger Federer.

TV shows beter 'back in the day'

First football game creates fairy-tale atmosphere

Friday nights can never compare to Saturday afternoons. With the late August sun beaming down and the smell of hot dogs drifting through the air, my first football game as a Spartan was everything my high school football experiences were not.

Republican Party members take power to new extremes

Two weeks ago, a friend was conversing with me about politics. Although notably enraged at current political affairs, he was still thinking coherently and after an expletive or two, he commented, "Andrew, those Republicans are using the government to destroy the government."At first, I was just glad to hear him talk about something new (he had previously been carefully and unsuccessfully explaining the reasons why I needed to apologize publicly for supporting the military intervention in Iraq). However, my friend is indeed correct: Recently the Republicans in office, using unprecedented tactics in unforeseen ways, have specifically undermined our traditional democratic processes - manipulating the power afforded to them by these same democratic processes.

Introductory columns are like flesh-eating bacterium. They gnaw away at a journalist's soul and body because they require mindless babble, often go begging for help and are redundant - did I mention they're redundant? I guess you could call me a beggar child gasping for his last breath of fresh air on the streets of Calcutta, but alas, it needs to be done.

Sometimes, films just go wrong

Seeing a bad movie is like accidentally seeing your parents have sex. You wish you could remove it from your mind, but no matter how hard you try it is always going to be there, turning your stomach. Some bad movies are successful and even capture awards and critical acclaim, while others are found to be terrible from the minute they get projected on the big screen.
