New felony firearm policy mounts tension at city council meeting

Ingham County Prosecutor Carol Siemon aimed to reduce racial disparities in felony firearm charges by introducing a new policy to forbid charging a felony firearm offense except under "most extreme circumstances." At an East Lansing City Council meeting Sept. 14, Ingham County Sheriff Scott Wriggelsworth appeared before the council to share his displeasure with this new policy.

Not your average politician: a look into Jessy Gregg

When Aaron Stephens filled the role as mayor of East Lansing in July 2020, he asked Gregg to be his Mayor Pro Tem. A position she accepted so long as Stephens promised her he would not quit. So, when Stephens resigned from office almost exactly a year after assuming the position, Gregg said she was struck with stress as she was shoved into the role of mayor.

EL City Council votes unanimously to establish police oversight board

The vote, which took place during the weekly East Lansing City Council Meeting, comes over a month after members of the Study Committee on an Independent Police Oversight Commission presented a report on the proposed establishment of this commission, containing the Study Committee’s recommendations on how the commission should be established.
