2 precincts to merge for May election

The East Lansing City Council voted to approve the combination of an East Lansing voting precinct with a Bath Township precinct for a Clinton County May 3 election in order to give residents of both East Lansing and Clinton County the opportunity to vote on a proposal without the city holding a May election. The decision was made at council’s Tuesday meeting at City Hall, 410 Abbot Road. The proposal in question would give Clinton County residents a $2.25 millage to go toward the county’s 911 operating system.

Council considers parking repairs

The East Lansing City Council discussed proposed improvements to some of the city’s downtown parking structures during its Tuesday work session at City Hall, 410 Abbot Road. Proposed changes would include extensive base structural repairs and repairs to elevators and lighting to three of the oldest parking structures in the city — Lot 10, or the Division Street ramp, the University Place parking structure at 300 M.A.C.

The East Lansing City Council listened to public opinion regarding medical marijuana distribution at its Tuesday meeting, 410 Abbot Road, and voted to postpone a decision on the matter to its March 15 meeting by issuing another 90-day moratorium.

The East Lansing City Council discussed a proposed ordinance for the dispensing of medical marijuana in order to clear up questions of council members and clarify points at its Tuesday work session at City Hall, 410 Abbot Road. The proposed ordinance, created by city staff, allows for medical dispensaries in primarily office districts but not in residential areas.

As a child of a migrant worker family, Carolina Segura spent much of her childhood moving between Texas, Georgia, Michigan and Mexico. Segura, now a zoology freshman, did not have stable middle and high school educations, let alone consistent medical care for her epilepsy.
