Family faces holiday without missing student

Thanksgiving dinner will be quieter for Krista R. Lueth’s family this year. The 34-year-old MSU student has been missing since Nov. 11 and investigators are still approaching the investigation as a missing person case, State Police Sgt. Kevin Mark said.

Professor uses Legos to teach

A Lego-based wall-climbing robot kicks its legs up high like a chicken and walks with suctioned feet across a table in the office of Dean Aslam, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering. For the past 10 years, Aslam has been applying Lego-based objects to complicated engineering tactics as part of his university research and as a method of outreach.

Council to discuss project funds

The East Lansing City Council will see a packed agenda at its work session tonight, including discussions on the Albert Place Condominiums, the petition on using public bonds to finance the public portion of City Center II and the revision of an historic district commission. The work session is scheduled to be held at 7 p.m. in Courtroom 2 of 54-B District Court, 101 Linden St.

Police, friends search for clues about student's disappearance

Rick Stilgenbauer is adjusting to the unfamiliar footsteps of police in the apartment above his own, where his friend of eight years was last seen Nov. 11. Krista R. Lueth, 34, who is pursuing her second MSU bachelor’s degree in horticulture, spoke to Stilgenbauer in his kitchen between 5:30 and 6 p.m. Nov. 11.

Ingham County seeks public servants

Friday is the last day for Ingham County residents to apply to fill open positions on several county boards and committees. The county has openings on the Board of Health, Parks & Recreation Commission, Equal Opportunity Committee and Women’s Commission. It also is seeking representatives from the business community and the general community for the Community Corrections Advisory Board.

Sisters turn love for cheer into new career

In a world where many children choose their values from TV shows, Carla Colbeck and her sister, Laura Colbeck, said they take it upon themselves to get their athletes involved. Two weeks after finding the ideal location, the Colbeck sisters opened the doors in late September of the Capital Cheer Training Facility, 3125B Pine Tree Road, in Lansing. The facility is home to the Capital Cheer All Stars LLC, which Carla Colbeck — who graduated in 2007 with a degree in business management — founded during her sophomore year at MSU.

Jobless rate in Mich. climbs to 9.3 percent

Michigan recorded its highest unemployment rate in 16 years in October, reaching 9.3 percent as the state’s manufacturing sector continues to free fall. The unemployment rate for October of 2007 was 7.5 percent in Michigan, and 8.7 percent in September.

City Council to hold meeting tonight

East Lansing residents will have the opportunity to comment on several proposed rezonings within the city at the East Lansing City Council meeting today. The meeting is scheduled to be held at 7:30 p.m. in Courtroom 2 of 54-B District Court, 101 Linden St.
