Although some think aching back problems are unusual, statistics show it is more common than expected. According to a recent survey, about 46 percent of MSU students say they have experienced back pain.

Of the 113 MSU-Detroit College of Law graduates who passed the Michigan Bar Examination last July, 44 were sworn in at the college Wednesday night."This is the official part when you actually make a commitment to be an attorney," said Michele Ekblad before swearing in.

RHA binds accounts to manage money

An executive board member of the Residence Halls Association has reduced the number of accounts in the budget in order to make money management easier.Bryson Jacques, comptroller for RHA, decreased the organization's seven accounts to two last week.

'U' to celebrate week of international education

MSU will celebrate International Education Week starting Saturday. The event is in its third year and is sponsored by the dean's office of International Studies and Programs. Jay Rodman, special projects coordinator for international studies and programs, said this year MSU has more events and higher profile speakers than the last three years. "It's very exciting," Rodman said.

Group begins marrow drive

A student organization hopes to register 100 students to donate bone marrow for cancer patients in two bone marrow drives. Asian Pacific American Student Organization (APASO), group affiliates Hapa Asian Pacific Alliance, alpha Kappa Delta Phi and Shaw Hall racial ethnic aides held the first of two drives to register students on a bone-marrow donation list. The first drive was held Tuesday, and a second drive will be held from 11 a.m.

Olin selected to offer 20 minute HIV test

MSU students can receive their HIV test results faster if Olin Health Center agrees to be a pilot site for a new method of testing.Olin Health Center was asked by the Michigan Department of Community Health to participate in a testing program that would provide results in 20 minutes before it is approved for state use.

Board to discuss grant funds, bike safety

MSU's Board of Trustees will discuss Friday ways to strengthen the College of Education via a $5 million grant awarded earlier this semester and review recent findings of the Red Cedar Greenway Master Plan study.The university was one of four institutions to receive the grant from the Carnegie Corp.

Miss Michigan discusses leadership

In front of a small, attentive crowd Monday, the winner of the 2002 Miss Michigan pageant discussed leadership in Conrad Hall.Erin Michelle Moss made her first appearance at MSU, and it all came about with the help of one of her good friends."I'm a friend of Erin's who also competed with her in pageants when we were younger," said Angela Corsi, Panhellenic Council vice president of external relations.

Spartan Soul to hold dance clinic Saturday

The Spartan Soul dance team will hold a three-hour dance clinic on noon Saturday at the IM Sports-Circle for anyone who wants to learn about hip-hop dance style. Spartan Soul will teach attendants one hip-hop and cheer routine, which the participants will perform Sunday afternoon at a showcase for family and friends. The learning session is open to students, faculty and anyone else who would like to attend. Dance experience is not necessary to attend.

Student wins Spartan Idol

A packed crowd at the International Center food court clapped their hands and shouted his name, anticipating his final performance of the evening Saturday. But when the music played, communication junior Evin Martin, was not on stage - he began his performance immersed in the crowd, and slowly made his way front and center. Martin’s renditions of Michael Jackson’s “I Want to Rock With You” and “Sweet Lady” by Tyrese, won the favor of the crowd, as he became the first winner of Spartan Idol: The Making Of An MSU Superstar.
