MSU baseball completes sweep of Siena, adds to streak

By Robert Bondyrbondy@statenews.comTHE STATE NEWSnnMSU baseball used 12 hits and another stellar outing from its pitching staff to complete the three-game series sweep of Siena on Sunday afternoon, winning 5-1 at McLane Baseball Stadium at Old College Field.The game was a one-run game until junior right fielder Jimmy Pickens brought in three runs on a first-pitch double in the bottom of the seventh to seal the win for MSU.

Spartan baseball takes two in road trip

By Robert Bondyrbondy@statenews.comTHE STATE NEWSnnMSU baseball used a surge of scoring and stellar pitching in a doubleheader Sunday afternoon to salvage a series victory over Minnesota, improving to .500 in Big Ten play.After dropping the series opener on Saturday, 4-2, the Spartans were able to win both games on Sunday, keeping the Golden Gophers scoreless in both games.

A year after making its first NCAA tournament appearance since 1979, the MSU baseball team narrowly missed the 64-team field this past spring. The Spartans finished with a 33-17 overall record and a 12-9 Big Ten record, but couldn’t quite crack the field as they were the first team left out of the tournament.?

Former Spartans end seasons in minor league

Former MSU baseball player Andrew Waszak’s college success is carrying over to professional baseball. Waszak was honored as the Danville Braves Pitcher of the Year after being picked by the Atlanta Braves in the 22nd round of the 2013 MLB First Year Player Draft in June. He was sent immediately to the team’s rookie affiliate, the Danville Braves.
