Throughout the preseason, the MSU men’s basketball team promised to return an up-tempo offense, and in the season opener against Chicago State they did just that – running by the Cougars, 86-53, Tuesday night at Breslin Center.

Kennedy, Abdelkader pace scoring; Dunne to return against no. 1 Miami
Junior forward Tim Kennedy, to put it lightly, is on fire. After ending last season with five goals and five assists in the final seven games, Kennedy has added nine goals and five assists in nine games this season and leads the CCHA in scoring.

After a preseason in which the MSU men’s basketball team struggled against Division II opponents Grand Valley State and Michigan Tech, the Spartans look to get off to start the regular season on a high note against a Chicago State squad that gave them a run for their money early last season.

Purdue win spells retribution
Junior quarterback Brian Hoyer was feeling the heat after last week’s loss to Michigan, but he was on fire in MSU’s 48-31 victory Saturday against Purdue. Hoyer rarely threw a bad ball all game, completing 22-of-31 passes for 266 yards, and most of his incompletions could be credited to dropped passes. At one stretch midway through the game, Hoyer completed 11 consecutive passes.
