Report: Capitol Villa Apartment fire accidental

The cause of the fire at apartment 48 Capitol Villa Apartments, 1708 E. Grand River Ave., was confirmed as an accident by East Lansing Fire Inspector Gerald Rodabaugh. Rodabaugh said the electric stove was left on in the apartment, and an unidentified object was left on the stove and caught fire.

FRIB project included in Obama’s budget

With the inclusion of a $30 million award from the Department of Energy in President Barack Obama’s budget, the construction of the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams, or FRIB, moves one step closer to its expected completion in 2020. Although the budget still needs approval from Congress, officials from MSU remain confident that the importance of the facility will be conveyed to legislators. The money was specified in earlier negotiations and was used to shape the project’s budget, said Alex Parsons, FRIB’s Project Communications Manager.

Fire Department releases cause of Capitol Villa Apartment fire

The cause of the fire at Capitol Villa Apartments, 1708 E. Grand River Ave., was determined to be an accident by East Lansing Fire Inspector Gerald Rodabaugh. Rodabaugh said the fire was caused by the electric stove in apartment 48 being left on and was compounded by combustible materials that were in close proximity to the stove. The fire destroyed apartment 48 and caused sever smoke damage to apartment 51 on the same floor. “No one was hurt in the fire and that’s what’s important,” Rodabaugh said. The conditions that caused the fire are no ones fault and there for will not affect the insurance claim on the building, Rodabaugh said.

Pretrial date set for MSU student charged with felonies after car crash

A preliminary examination and pretrial for MSU student Charles King III and his two roommates, Michael Freund and Jordan Henika, has been set for late March after the three appeared for a preliminary examination conference Tuesday at the 55th District Court in Mason, Mich. The three men are charged with providing alcohol to four minors on Jan.

Gov. Rick Snyder spoke at the iNet International Conference today at Kellogg Center in front of more than 200 educators from across the globe attended. Teachers traveled from countries as far away as Nepal, the Netherlands and the United Arab Emirates to come to MSU for the week, where they discussed education issues and heard speakers, including Gov.
