Backpack stolen at MSU

A 19-year-old male student had his backpack stolen from outside East Akers Hall on Sept. 10. The student said he had left his backpack on a bench outside while he skateboarded, and he forgot his backpack when he re-entered East Akers Hall, MSU police Sgt.

Teaching interns face Chicago strike

Graduate student Laurel Denay went to Chicago expecting to be teaching high school students at King College Prep High School on the city’s south side. But a citywide teacher strike has interrupted her plans — instead of teaching lessons, she’s stuck at home making bulletin boards.

Construction team plans renovations for Akers Hall, filming tower

New construction plans could be coming to Akers Hall in the near future. Karen Zelt, communications manager for the Physical Plant, said during the Physical Plant’s monthly construction junction meeting Thursday morning, plant employees are working to submit an authorization plan to the MSU Board of Trustees during its October board meeting for an Akers Hall renovation.

At MSU, fewer hispanics than U.S. average

According to Pew Research Center, in the U.S., Hispanic Americans compose the largest minority group of students between 18 and 24 years old enrolled in four-year colleges in 2011, topping off the year with a record number of 2.1 million students enrolled.
