Bill in response to E.L. murder case passes House committee

After Thursday’s House Judiciary Committee meeting, the bill Metro Detroit resident Shawn D’Annunzio is pushing for, Brandon D’Annunzio’s law, now is one step closer to being passed into jurisdiction. Brandon D’Annunzio’s law, or Senate Bill 726, originally was proposed in her son’s name to change the statute of limitations for crimes such as manslaughter, kidnapping or attempted murder from 10 to 20 years.

Suspect charged in Charlie Kang's sexual assault

Manuel Antonio Alvarado-Espino, a 32-year-old Lansing, Mich. resident, was arrested Tuesday for allegedly sexually assaulting a female employee at Charlie Kang’s Restaurant, 127 E. Grand River Ave., according to a press release from the East Lansing Police Department, or ELPD.

Larkin added own money to campaign

In Monday’s issue of The State News, it was reported state Rep. Mark Meadows, D-East Lansing, spent $35,000 of his own personal funds — $15,000 during the month of October — on his campaign, according to campaign finance reports.
