Diversity, equity and inclusion are three terms Michigan State University focuses on through different resources. In recent years, more surveys and trainings have been implemented into student curriculums and sent out to student inboxes to raise awareness. ASMSU will continue this movement with a five-year plan.

The five-year plan is a program complete with surveys, community feedback and strategic planning built to “kind of keep track of and hold ourselves accountable to the goals that we want to see at MSU,” ASMSU chief diversity, equity and inclusion officer Nadir Hamid said.

“We really wanted to take a community-focused approach on it and include MSU students and every part of the process," ASMSU DEI programming coordinator Alissa Hakim said. "So that includes the preliminary research, figuring out our values, the survey questions, and things of that nature, just giving students the opportunity to be a part of it and to be very, very transparent with students.”

Hamid said the plan will be built after outlining main issues for students on campus, analyzing the university's DEI plan and involving students.

“It outlines several key objectives that we have for this university for students specifically within the coming years," Hamid said. "And so just having you know, some more engagement on it would be amazing.”

Students can learn more about the five-year plan or give input by reaching out to ASMSU.

“I just think it's very important that more people do get involved even like the little committee meetings,” residential college of arts and humanities junior Dellta Waldburger said.
