—Michigan State’s men’s basketball Head Coach Tom Izzo has agreed to a five-year rollover contract with the team.
Izzo's contract includes a non-performance-related compensation of $5.92 million per year, including a $2.43 million base, which is an increase from his initial $430k base on his 2018 contract.
He will also receive $3.09 million in supplemental compensation and $400k from Nike. In total, his yearly compensation package is worth about $6.2 million.
The contract will require formal approval by the MSU Board of Trustees at their next meeting on Sept. 9.
Izzo has been at the end of the bench for the Spartans for the past 27 years, which has garnered him an extensive amount of accomplishments.
Izzo, the 2016 inductee into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, has an NCAA National Championship, six Big Ten Tournament titles, eight Final Four appearances, multiple National Coach of the Year awards and 10 regular-season Big Ten Championships on his resume. He has also guided his team to a Big Ten record of 24 straight NCAA tournament appearances.
Even with all of that under his belt, Izzo is still working hard and hungry for more success, as he's been hot on the recruiting trail the past few weeks. His 2023 class is now ranked in the top three in the entire country, according to 247Sports.
Izzo said in a statement that he is excited to be back in the place that he has called home for the past 40 years.
“I love Michigan State and I am proud and excited to continue the hard work to bring another national championship to East Lansing,” Izzo said.
