State Rep. Jewell Jones, D-Inkster, was arraigned on Wednesday on additional charges of attempting to escape custody and bringing a weapon into county jail. Both are felonies that could result in five- and four-year sentences, respectively.
“I will always prioritize the safety of state legislators and those who are serving their community at the state Capitol,” Speaker of the House Jason Wentworth, R-Farwell, said in a statement. “Once I learned of this situation, I took immediate action.”
“We worked really hard to give [voters] clarity last year on how to vote, to ensure no matter where they lived or who they voted for that their vote would count,” Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson said.
