Karey Krohnfeldt took on the role of acting associate vice president, or AVP, for the Office of Civil Rights and Title IX Education and Compliance earlier this month.

President Samuel L. Stanley Jr. announced this change in an email to MSU leadership through an internal newsletter to employees and is updated in the staff directory.

Tanya Jachimiak previously held two positions, the title IX coordinator and the associate vice president. Her role as coordinator was replaced temporarily by Nicole Schmidtke Oct. 1. Krohnfelt took over the associate vice president role in early November.

The Federal Office for Civil Rights, or OCR, requires MSU to notify the entire campus when there is a change in the Title IX Coordinator.

“Other management and personnel changes are not something we traditionally announce to the entire campus,” Vice President and University Spokesperson Emily Guerrant said. “So someone stepping into the AVP role was a personnel change and we just announced it at the leadership level.”

According to an email from Stanley to MSU leadership, Krohnfeldt works at Grand River Solutions, an organization that provides Title IX and equity support, as well as held a dual capacity role as Title IX Coordinator for the University of Colorado Denver and University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.

“We’re happy to have Karey here and I know that she’ll do a good job for us while she’s with us,” Guerrant said.

Stanley wrote these changes do not change the way the Office of Institutional Equity is contacted. The Title IX coordinator can be reached with any inquiries about Title IX at MSU or make a report at 408 W. Circle Drive Olds Hall, Suite 105 East Lansing, MI 48824, by calling (517) 355-3960 or emailing OIE.nicoleschmidtke@msu.edu.

Editor's note: The article was edited at 4:47 p.m. to reflect that Krohnfeldt still works for Grand River Solutions.
