Reports of 27 possible Michigan State University Community Compact violations have been received since the start of the spring semester, according to MSU Deputy Spokesperson Dan Olsen.

The Community Compact applies to all MSU students, faculty, staff, alumni, contractors, vendors and visitors. It states a personal responsibility to protect the health and safety of the individual and those around them by requiring face masks, physical distancing, personal hygiene, self-monitoring and adherence to all guidelines.

For all on-campus students or those who plan to visit campus, participation in MSU’s COVID-19 Early Detection Program and a flu vaccination is mandatory.

Students must also fill out the Spartan Health Screening form each day they plan to be on campus.

Of the 27 reports, four have been placed on an interim suspension. This is a short-term measure put in place by the Dean of Students until a conduct case is resolved if it is determined that a student’s continued presence at the university poses a clear and present danger to the health and safety of individuals or property, Olsen said.

Additionally, 14 students have been required to either participate in a COVID-19 Educational Workshop or provide community service with MSU’s mask ambassador program.

As of Wednesday, MSU data shows 40 cases detected from the Early Detection Program the week of Feb. 15, down from 132 the week of Feb. 1. Weekly percent positivity for the program has since decreased to 0.45%.

A total of 15 on-campus residents are currently in isolation and five are in quarantine. This accounts for 0.48% of all on-campus residents.

Concerns about noncompliance with the Community Compact can be made anonymously to the MSU Misconduct Hotline at 800-763-0764. According to the website, those who violate the compact will be subject to disciplinary action in the same manner and magnitude as violations of other university policies.
