Michigan State women’s basketball will have to miss their third consecutive game due to COVID-19 issues within the program.

According to an MSU release, the decision was mutual and made out of an “abundance of caution.” The number of positive tests within the MSU women's hoops program, if any, remains unclear. However, the men’s basketball program has confirmed multiple positive COVID-19 tests within the program including four players and two staff members as of Monday.

Up to this point, no games beyond Jan. 21 have been decided on and all games including those against Michigan and Illinois, which were postponed last week. All three postponed games are being worked on between the Big Ten conferences and the individual programs to be rescheduled later this season.

Michigan State will have a chance to play all three games again back to back to back, but in opposite locations of the previously scheduled games as their schedule has Michigan in East Lansing on Jan. 28, against Indiana on Jan. 31 and home against Illinois on Feb. 4.

One team the Spartans will not have a chance to play unless the game is rescheduled is Ohio State, who postponed multiple games during winter break, including their New Year’s Eve matchup against the Spartans.

The Spartans' next chance to play is at Wisconsin on Jan. 24, where they will look to break a two-game losing streak that ended with a loss against Nebraska on Jan. 10.
