Following record-breaking COVID-19 cases and the recent emergency order from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), the majority of offices and facilities in the city of East Lansing will be closed for three weeks, beginning Wednesday, Nov. 18.

While all office closures will initially be in place for three weeks, they may be extended based on the status of coronavirus cases and public health directives, according to a press release Tuesday.

East Lansing City Hall, the East Lansing Department of Public Works (DPW), East Lansing Prime Time and the East Lansing 54B District Court will be closed to the public for in-person transactions. The DPW 24/7 recycling drop-off site will close, as well.

The East Lansing Public Library will be closed and will roll back its services from Nov. 20 through Dec. 9, but it will still offer curbside pick-up services. The 24/7 outside lockers for hold pickups will also remain available.

The East Lansing Hannah Community Center (ELHCC) will remain open with limited hours to continue offering its childcare program, fitness center and pool visits on a reservation-basis only. All other programming at ELHCC will be suspended until further notice.

All essential services — police, fire, EMS, curbside trash and recycling services, water services, wastewater management and court services — will remain available. Non-essential staff will be available remotely to help with non-essential services.

The East Lansing Police Department’s 24/7 police desk, 409 Park Lane, will additionally remain staffed and open to the public during the office closures.
