The East Lansing City Clerk's office will be setting up a satellite office at the Hannah Community Center located on Abbott Road to prepare for the upcoming election, according to the Tuesday press release.

"We decided to implement a satellite office for this specific election to best serve voters, as we anticipated a higher turnout for this election and to accommodate voter registration taking place through Election Day," City Clerk Jennifer Shuster said in an email.

All East Lansing residents can register to vote, vote absentee and turn in their voted ballots at this location starting Monday, Oct 5.

"We originally planned to have the satellite office housed at Brody Hall at Michigan State University," Shuster said. "We had to change our plans when most of the residence halls were closed for the fall semester. We opted for a centralized city-owned facility that would remain open through the Election to best serve voters, as election work is deemed essential."

This satellite office will be open until Tuesday, Nov. 3 at the following times:

  • Monday, Oct. 5 through Friday, Oct. 30 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Monday through Friday)
  • Saturday, Oct. 31 and Sunday, Nov. 1 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Monday, Nov. 2 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Election Day - Tuesday, Nov. 3 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The main city clerk office, located inside East Lansing City Hall (410 Abbot Road) will still be open to all residents who need assistance registering to vote, voting absentee and turning in their ballots.

Ballot drop boxes will be available as well at multiple locations including in the north lot of the City Hall, alongside new drop boxes at the MSU-CATA Transportation Center at 592 N. Shaw Lane and the East Lansing Department of Public Works at 1800 E. State Road. These ballot boxes will be locked and checked daily by the city clerk staff.

"It is important to register or check your voter registration by October 19, by visiting www.mi.gov/vote," Schuster said. "After this date, all voter registration and updates to information must be made, in person, at the City Clerk’s Office with proof of residency."

Community members with questions about the upcoming election can contact the city clerk’s office at 517-319-6914.
