Nine individuals, including eight inmates in the Ingham County Jail, tested positive for COVID-19, county officials announced on Wednesday.

A kitchen employee reported symptoms June 19 and left early, despite having no signs of a fever when entering the workplace, according to the statement. She was subsequently tested for COVID-19.

Two inmate employees from Post 10, where inmate employees reside, also said they did not feel well and were then tested.

The kitchen employee notified the jail Monday that she had tested positive for COVID-19. According to the release, the kitchen was immediately shut down and all 30 Post 10 inmates entered quarantine.

Upon testing Post 10, eight inmates tested positive for COVID-19, the statement said. Only one had shown symptoms.

For now, the jail system has increased sanitation measures. All food is now being made off site and shipped to the facility.

Additionally, all Post 10 employees and a few other positions are in the process of being tested.

"We continue to work closely with the Ingham County Health Department, who staffs jail medical, to mitigate this situation," according to the release.
