TEDxMSU will host a speaker series called "Vision" at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Wharton Center.

The event will feature eight speakers presenting on topics ranging from human trafficking to data visualization.

The speakers that will be taking the stage include:

Ariel Dempsey — a fourth-year medical student who is set to graduate from the Michigan State University's College of Human Medicine and continue her studies at Oxford University —will be giving a TED Talk titled: "The Will to Act." It discusses the courage to act, even when you're uncertain about what the outcome might be.

Augusto Gil — a PhD student in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department — will be speaking about the importance of fire safety and how technology can impact its future.

Donna Tran — a College of Human Medicine medical student who formerly worked as a researcher at Stanford University — will discuss how people can work to better their lives through meaning-centered psychology.

Ellie Small — a second-year medical student in MSU's College of Osteopathic Medicine at the Detroit campus and the President of Detroit Street Care — will be speaking about the difference students make in street medicine to build relationships that promote health and autonomy.

Kandace Lavender — a doctoral student at MSU and a poet and hip-hop artist — will be speaking about how accessing students voices through written and spoken words can help at-risk youth.

Lauren Vollinger — a student in the ecological-community psychology doctorate program at MSU — will speak about human trafficking and the 20-year anniversary of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act.

Megan Maas — MSU assistant professor in Human Development & Family Studies — will be discussing pornography and how it has affected the sexual experiences of today’s youth compared to older generations.

Yusri Jamaluddin — a data specialist for MSU Extension's Community, Food, and Environment Institute — will focus on how we understand the world through data visualization.

TEDxMSU rebooted in 2014 and is a collaboration between MSU students, faculty, alumni and the Greater East Lansing Area. The x in TEDx means that the event is independently and locally organized. They are not directly controlled by TED, but follow the same format as typical TED conferences.
