The second of three finalists for the Michigan State University provost and executive vice president of academic affairs search — Antonio Dwayne Tillis — is set to virtually visit the campus Tuesday.

A forum will be held via Zoom from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, and Tillis will answer questions posed to him from the community. Questions can be submitted through a form until 5 p.m. Monday.

A standard set of questions are expected to be asked of all provost candidates.

Currently, Tillis serves as the dean of the college of liberal arts and social sciences at the University of Houston. Prior to that, at the College of Charleston he served as the dean of school languages, culture and world affairs, according to his CV sent out by the university.

At Dartmouth College, he served as the chair of the African and African American studies program.

At Purdue University, he served as the director of the Latin American and Latino studies program, the director of the undergraduate and graduate studies and the director of study abroad.

Tillis earned his Bachelor of Science in Spanish from Vanderbilt University, and then his Master of Arts in Spanish Literature from Howard University. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Missouri at Columbia in Latin American literature with an Afro-Hispanic emphasis.
