The MSU Central Services building was evacuated following a reported fire in the basement of the building.

The dispatch information given to the police was that there was smoke in the basement as well as a burning smell. The fire alarm was pulled and the building was evacuated, Michigan State University Police Department Capt. Doug Monette said.

The police department dispatched at 12:54 p.m.

Red Cedar Road was blocked between Shaw Lane and Chestnut Road. A perimeter was also set up around the building to maintain safety. Foot traffic was still present across the road.

As of right now, the fire is still being investigated but there is no suspected criminal activity related to the event. It is suspected that the fire was due to an electrical malfunction.

There were no injuries reported, and the building and road have both been reopened.
