Former Vice President Joe Biden is projected to win the Michigan democratic primary over opponents Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Tulsi Gabbard.

Biden’s win comes after Sanders’ upset victory in 2016, where he beat former Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in a poll-defying turn of events.

Sanders did not pull the same upset again, predicted by the former vice president’s commanding lead in polls.

Biden held a “Get Out the Vote" rally on Monday in Detroit along with Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, who endorsed Biden March 5. Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan also expressed support for Biden at the event.

Both Sanders and Biden had events scheduled in Ohio, but cancelled them due to fears of COVID-19, caused by a member of the coronavirus family.

"In the years to come (future generations) will look back on this moment, and they're gonna say 'When it mattered most, what did they do? Did they save our democracy or were they part of the problem?” Biden said at the rally.

Michigan had the most delegates up for grabs based on results, 125 in total.

Sanders campaigned in Michigan last week, with four events throughout the week, including rallies in Detroit, Ann Arbor and a Town Hall in Flint.
