The Office of the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education, or APUE, has appointed Mark Largent as the new associate provost and dean of Undergraduate Studies.

Shortly after Largent’s appointment, Reclaim MSU accused the Board of Trustees of approving the appointment in secret.

Reclaim MSU alleges that the appointment was secretive because it was not mentioned at the Board of Trustees meeting in December.

MSU Spokesperson Emily Guerrant said the approval was done in the meeting through an agenda item about staff actions, which encompass each appointment, something the board traditionally uses to appoint officials.

“What you don't see is the board go through each one, one by one, although they're all listed in the agenda in the notes, and they're all in the minutes afterwards.” Guerrant said. "You don't hear them say, 'Mark Largent' and then take a vote yes or no, or 'Emily Guerrant yes or no,' but you hear them say 'we approve these staff actions.' So that was the point in the meeting that they were approving Mark to the permanent dean position."
