Jury finds Steve Washington guilty of Michigan State student murder

December 17, 2019

The jury found Steve Washington guilty of murder in the second degree after his trial today in Veterans Memorial Court, according to Ingham County court records. They charged Washington in relation to the murder of former Michigan State student Isai Berrones.

The jury also found Washington guilty of the charges of carrying a concealed weapon and carrying a weapon while committing a felony, according to court records.

Washington's charges stem from an incident in which East Lansing Police Department responded to a report of fighting and gunshots on Oct. 12, 2018. Upon arrival, the police found Berrones wounded. Later, Berrones was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Berrones, 22, was studying food science in his senior year at MSU.

Washington was remanded to jail without bond, according to court records.
