—In light of the recent racist incidents reported on Michigan State University's campus, two peaceful protests have been scheduled for this upcoming weekend — one on Friday before the Michigan State University Board of Trustees meeting, and one on Sunday.
On Friday, Oct. 25, there will be a group of people who feel that the university has failed them in terms of protection gathering in front of the Hannah Administration Building at 7:00 a.m.
Shortly after, on Sunday, Oct. 27, there will be a another peaceful protest in front of the Hannah Administration Building from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The protest was started as a Facebook event, hosted by freshman Kennedy Parker and Makenna Carpenter.
Its purpose is to allow the Spartan community to speak out against the way the university has handled these incidents.
“What we are striving for is unity on campus,” Carpenter said. “We want to show the university that we will not be silenced and that our voices deserve to be heard.”
With this protest, the two young women hope to spark change and eventually work with the university to create harsher punishments and stricter guidelines when it comes to incidents like these on campus.
“Being Jewish, after seeing all the stuff that has occurred … I knew something needed to happen soon, before it got worse,” Carpenter said.
The agenda is very open as of right now, allowing for collaboration so that all participants can feel involved and valued, she said.
