President Samuel L. Stanley Jr. named Melissa Woo as MSU's new senior vice president and chief information officer.

Woo replaces Rob McCurdy, who is leaving MSU for a position at a global accounting company, a press release said. His final day is Oct. 4.

Woo has been the vice president for information technology and chief information officer for Stony Brook University since 2016. She has served in similar roles at the University of Oregon, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

“Melissa has the right blend of skills and attributes we need at this time,” Stanley said in the press release. “She possesses superb technical knowledge to support research enterprises. A hallmark of her approach is listening closely and building an organization that is deeply responsive to the strategy, goals, needs and priorities of those IT supports and enables.”

Before Woo begins working Dec. 1, Chief Operating Officer for MSU IT and Director of Application Services Fred Sudler will be serving as chief information officer.

Woo's appointment is subject to approval at the next Board of Trustees meeting, taking place Oct. 25. She will report directly to Stanley.

“I am honored to be joining MSU and thank President Stanley for providing me the opportunity to serve the university community,” Woo said in the press release. “I look forward to learning from my new colleagues and helping them succeed in reaching their goals as well as advancing the mission of Michigan State University. On a personal note, I can’t wait to be back in the Big Ten. Go Green!”
