East Lansing launches 10th annual photo contest

The city of East Lansing has launched its 10th annual photo contest, participants can submit their photos by October 13, 2019 at midnight.

Anyone can participate in the contest, but photos must be taken in the city of East Lansing. Submissions must be a high resolution and not edited significantly. Photos with models must also sign a model-release form.

Contestants can submit up to five photos taken in the city of East Lansing for a chance to win Meijer gift cards. The contest is sponsored by Meijer, as well as the East Lansing Farmers Market as well as the Downtown Management board.

Last year the contest received between 30-40 submissions.

Photos can be submitted at the city of East Lansing website.

The contest will also include specific prizes for photos of downtown East Lansing and the East Lansing Farmers Market.

Prizes and categories are listed below:

- 1st Place - $150 Meijer gift card.
- 2nd Place - $100 Meijer gift card.
- 3rd Place - $50 Meijer gift card.
- Honorable Mentions (8 in total) - $25 Meijer gift cards.
- Downtown Category - $100 Downtown East Lansing parking voucher.
- Farmers Market Category - $20 East Lansing Farmers market gift card, a reusable market bag and a T-shirt.

"The photos will be used for online and print marketing material." said East Lansing Communications Specialist Quinn Alexander. "We also post them on our social media."

Outside of marketing, the contest is meant to foster community engagement.

"The purpose of the contest is to try to get the community involved. Going around and exploring East Lansing and showing us what they love about the community and just the city as a whole, we really want to see from their perspective what they love about East Lansing," said Alexander.

Alexander will be running the contest. This will be her first year. Previous years were run by East Lansing Communications Coordinator Mikell Frey.
