As a Spartan Graduate in 2011, I walked the stage in the Breslin Center knowing that I got a diploma and an education that is world class, and the administration backing the diploma was world class. It was a sense of pride and accomplishment for me and my five years of hard work that I put in when I was going through the College of Engineering and making something out of my efforts.
However, in the last few years, the diploma that I hung on the wall does not seem to have the same effect. After all the news with former President Simon and the fallout that happened at MSU, I began to dislike having the signature of such a president of a university be on my diploma. It does not symbolize what Michigan State University stood for when I was a student.
Further, I feel ashamed that I was a student during the Simon administration. To do something about it, I wanted to get the signature changed on my diploma, and to my shock, the cost of doing so is $50. I find this to be very insensitive and disrespectful, and the current administration should allow to have a diploma reprinted for free after all the turmoil that happened.
This would be a step in the right direction to undo the damage that the Simon administration at Michigan State University has done. To set the stage to be world class, we have to have world class morals and integrity.
