Ex-gymnastics coach Klages charged with lying in an investigation

September 25, 2018
Kathie Klages was arraigned on Aug. 30 on two counts of lying to a peace officer about her knowledge of ex-MSU and USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar’s sexual abuse. —

When asked by Michigan State Police officers if she had any knowlege of ex-MSU doctor Larry Nassar's sexual abuse prior to 2016, former MSU Gymnastics coach Kathie Klages said no.

However, many survivors, including Larissa Boyce, who says she told Klages back in 1997, say otherwise. The Office of the Attorney General charged Klages on Aug. 23.

She was arraigned in Lansing Aug. 30. If convicted on two counts of lying to a peace officer, Klages faces a felony and a misdemeanor. The misdemeanor charge has up to two years of imprisonment or a fine up to $5,000, while the felony is punishable by up to four years in prison or a fine up to $5,000, according to a press release from the Attorney General's office.

Her preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 27.
