The MSU Steering Committee released a statement Tuesday and said it will call for a vote of no confidence in the Board of Trustees if former governor John Engler is appointed interim president.
The statement reiterates faculty concerns that Engler has no academic leadership experience, and says the Board of Trustees ignored the Steering Committee’s recommendations.
In a private meeting Monday, the Steering Committee recommended the board choose a woman candidate with experience designing and implementing programs to combat sexual assault and harassment as interim president.
Their efforts to change MSU’s culture were “thwarted by a myopic and entrenched administrative structure that had placed political expediency and institutional branding above the need to regain the trust of the greater MSU community,” according to the statement.
If the vote of no confidence passes, the Steering Committee will call for the resignation of the entire Board of Trustees.
