Rachael Denhollander, the first woman to go public with her story of abuse at the hands of ex-MSU and USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar, expressed disappointment with the move in a series of Facebook posts Tuesday.

Denhollander wrote she sincerely hopes the board reconsiders its rumored decision.

"I am beyond disappointed to hear this," Denhollander wrote. "Engler is a deep political insider at MSU. At a time the university desperately needs, and survivors pleaded for, outside accountability and leadership, the Board chooses one of the most entrenched insiders."

In another post made an hour later, Denhollander wrote she hopes Engler acts with leadership and integrity despite his close ties to MSU.

"The Board issued good words a few days ago about moving away from litigation and towards healing, but they have yet to act on those words," Denhollander wrote. "My hope is that Engler will be the first leader to truly act on what is right, and put immediate action behind the Board's statement."

In a Facebook post, MSU College Democrats expressed further disappointment in the decision and called for a protest of Wednesday's meeting.

"The College Democrats at MSU expresses no faith in this choice for our university president," according to the post. "We demanded change. A change that is unlikely to come from the leadership of a retired political figure who does not represent the interests of the students of MSU."

In response, the "Flash Flood the Board" Facebook event was created. At time of publication, 45 students have marked they are "going" to the event and 200 are interested.

The MSU College Democrats plan to hold a sit-in at the board meeting.

"We are tired of being dismissed," according to a letter posted by the group. "We are tired of being passed over. The university exists to educate its students, not to collect money from donors or appease some political entity. We demand to be heard."

According to a post made in the event, the Office of the Secretary of the Board of Trustees confirmed to the group the public will not be allowed to address the board at the meeting. 

"Their refusal to hear from the community is all the more reason to join us in flooding their meeting tomorrow," the group wrote in response. "If they do not want to hear how angry we are, we must show them!"
