As MSU's Board of Trustees prepare to meet tomorrow morning, new security measures are being put in place.
Beginning Sept. 8 — and for all subsequent meetings held — meeting attendees will go through a screening process beginning at 8:30 a.m. and "will be similar to airport screening stanchions," including metal detectors.
In an email announcement sent from Jane Miller in the President’s Office, “the doors to the Provost's and North hallway will be closed/locked with entry available only through employee ID form from 7:00 a.m. until the BOT meeting has concluded."
According to an email sent from MSU Media Communications, this security change comes by recommendation from the MSU Police Department.
MSUPD Captain Doug Monette ensured that the decision to institute a security system was not based on any threat or incident.
"The decision to screen participants ... is a proactive approach," he said.
He continued that these measures are appropriate for a public meeting.
Attendees are being encouraged to "travel light" and limit the amount of bags they bring along.
