Former MSU basketball player Keith Appling accepted a plea deal on Monday requiring him to spend a year in jail, multiple media outlets reported.

The ruling stems from an incident last August in which Appling was pulled over in Detroit for a traffic citation, and discarded a gun after fleeing from officers during the stop.

It was the third time Appling faced charges over a four-month period last year.

Appling plead guilty to carrying a concealed weapon and resisting and obstructing a police officer, according to the Detroit Free Press. Two other charges were dismissed as a part of the plea agreement: third-degree fleeing a police officer and felony firearm possession.

Appling, 25, is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 3. The sentence agreement will require Appling to spend five years on probation, with the first year in the Wayne County Jail with no early release, the Free Press reports.

Appling played under Tom Izzo and the Spartans from 2010-2014 and went undrafted in the 2014 NBA draft.
