One suspect pleads guilty in 2015 assault on MSU student in Spartan Village

February 3, 2016

Paris Strickland, a 20-year-old from Detroit, pleaded guilty to two felony counts Wednesday morning for her role in the assault against an MSU student, Ryah Kelly, in the Spartan Village parking lot in March 2015.

The two counts — conspiracy to commit assault less than murder and assault with intent to do great bodily harm — carry a maximum sentence of 10 years each or a $5,000 fine.

Strickland said she had used pepper spray against Kelly during the assault but said she was not one of the suspects who used a baseball bat to hurt Kelly.

There were five women involved in the assault, who have yet to appear for their plea hearings.

Judge Rosemarie Aquilina paid mention to the fact that Strickland had done nothing to stop the other suspects from using the bat against Kelly.

Strickland’s sentencing is set for March 2 at 11 a.m., in the Ingham County Circuit Court.
