MSU Community Music School (CMS) offers a variety of camps for local individuals through the summer.

"MSU community music school is an outreach division of the MSU college of music," said Sarah Bohan, communications coordinator at CMS. However, it is not necessary for individuals to be affiliated with MSU to take advantage of the music services from CMS

The school offers many different programs to the community. Bohan said, "We offer music education, music therapy program, and private lessons for individuals from our community of all ages."

One of the popular programs that CMS offers is the Eric ‘RicStar’ Winter Music Therapy Camp. It ended just a few weeks ago.

"(That) camp we offer for individuals with special needs," Bohan said. "And for their siblings to come and receive valuable music therapy; it is a life changing experience."

Right now, there is a rock camp offering this week. Students can form their own band and learn professional music skills. Plus, they can also talk about the business side of it. "If they want to pursue a profession in music, they are gaining the knowledge, not just knowing how to play, but how to market themselves, " Bohan said.

As the culmination of the program, the rock camp will perform a concert at 4:30 p.m. at The Loft in Lansing this Sunday.

CMS hopes to offer as many opportunities as possible for interested individuals in the community and does everything they can to support them, Bohan said.
