Although the Spartans have the week off, they took home a few honors Monday with nine players being selected to All-Big Ten teams.

This included a couple of individual awards. Senior wide receiver Tony Lippett won the Richter-Howard Big Ten Receiver of the Year award and senior free safety Kurtis Drummond won the Tatum-Woodson Big Ten Defensive Back of the Year award.

Lippett was a dominant down-field threat for MSU this season finishing with 60 catches for 1,124 yards and 11 touchdowns. Lippett led the list of All-Big Ten offensive Spartans, being selected by both the media and coaches for first team All-Big Ten. Junior center Jack Allen joined Lippett as the only other Spartan on the offense first team All-Big Ten for both the media and coaches.

Junior quarterback Connor Cook, senior guard Travis Jackson and sophomore tackle Jack Conklin made up the rest of the Spartans who were selected for the second team All-Big Ten. All three were selected by both the coaches and media.

On the other side of the ball there were a number of Spartans who received recognition, starting with Drummond. The Masury, Ohio native finished the 2014 campaign with 65 total tackles, 15 passes defended and four interceptions.

Next to Drummond on both the coaches and media defensive first team All-Big Ten was junior defensive end Shilique Calhoun and junior cornerback Trae Waynes. Senior linebacker Taiwan Jones was the lone Spartan to be selected to the defensive second team All-Big Ten, with the coaches selecting Jones for the list.

Despite running for more than 1,300 yards and 20 touchdowns, senior running back Jeremy Langford was held off the All-Big Ten team list. Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon and Indiana running back Tevin Coleman made up the first team selections, while Minnesota’s David Cobb and Nebraska’s Ameer Abdullah were selected to the second team.
