Grammy-winning jazz bassist visits campus through Jazz Artist in Residence program

October 7, 2014

Prolific jazz bassist Christian McBride will be entertaining and teaching on campus until Sunday, Oct. 12.

McBride is the first of five artists scheduled to work with students in the College of Music as part of the Jazz Artist in Residence program funded by the MSUFCU. During his residency, he will also visit high school and middle school jazz programs across the state.

McBride played at the MSU Federal Credit Union Headquarters, 3777 West Road in East Lansing, at 6 p.m. Monday as part of MSUFCU’s Blue Mondays concert series.

"The Blue Monday event is the kickoff event for each of the visiting artists through the MSUFCU Jazz Artist in Residence program," April Clobes, executive vice president and COO of MSUFCU, said in an email. "The concerts are designed to give... the community and our members (access) to outstanding professional jazz musicians that they may not otherwise have an opportunity to hear."

McBride will also be performing with MSU’s Jazz Orchestra I Friday at 8 p.m. in the Fairchild Theatre in the Auditorium Building. Students and the general public are welcome to attend the event.

Student tickets are free. Adult tickets are $10, and senior tickets are $8.

Tickets for Friday’s performance can be purchased through the College of Music’s website
