Here are some of the unique and interesting comments that stood out from Monday’s media day activities.

Head Coach Mark Dantonio on backup quarterback battle between sophomore Tyler O’Connor and redshirt freshman Damion Terry:

“Both those guys are very good football players, strong arms, both bring a little bit of something different to the game. I think they’re both Division I BCS quarterbacks so it’s exciting to have Damion here and Tyler, and we’ll see who shakes out best at the end of fall camp. They got to get scrimmages under their belt, got to see how they perform under pressure. Damion Terry has a little bit of a set back, he’s practicing but we’ll hold him back just a little bit. He’ll get that last scrimmage in there, but we’ll hold him back a little early.”

Senior running back Jeremy Langford on how life has changed now as one of Big Ten’s best returning rushers:

It’s changed for the fans and everybody else, but me personally inside the room (I’m) still working like you’re not the starter. Can’t become complacent, Coach D talks about consistency from the starters and don’t become complacent, no body, because there’s always somebody behind you who’s pushing you to bring that talent every year.

Junior quarterback Connor Cook on MSU-Michigan rivalry “Little Brother” tag:

“Obviously you just don’t say that stuff, just irritated us because that’s disrespecting us and our program and it just fuels us to take it to Michigan every time we play them.”

Senior safety Kurtis Drummond on his experience at Big Ten Media Days in Chicago:

“It was a fun experience, it was my first time in Chicago. Going with guys like (junior defensive end) Shilique (Calhoun) and (Cook) made the experience even more fun. Just having coach Dantonio to pick me to represent the team was humbling, being able to get down there with guys and talking to guys that I maybe never would have met before. It’s just always a fun experience and just humbling to be in that position.”

Co-offensive Coordinator and Tight Ends Coach Jim Bollman on potential wildcat packages with Terry:

“Certainly it’s a possibility. You saw that he has that kind of potential. He’s a gifted runner, he really is so that’s not a hard thing to improve for him, he knows how to do that. If you’re going to do those kind of things that’s stuff you work into the scheme, but he’s working really hard at becoming good in the other aspect of being a quarterback and that’s throwing the ball.”

Junior defensive end Shilique Calhoun on getting rid of Spartan stereotype of having a setback season after a successful one:

“I’ve heard a lot from media people saying how you know Michigan State has one good year then out of nowhere they drop and fall so coach (Dantonio) hasn’t had to say much to us. Basically the biggest thing he stresses to us is don’t be complacent so I mean that resolves all issues. If you’re not complacent and trying to get better each and every day there’s no reason why you can’t reach these goals. There’s no reason why you can’t get these expectations that you dream of.”

Defensive Coordinator Pat Narduzzi on preparation for No. 4 Oregon on Sept. 6:

“We’ve study probably a week on Oregon during the summer. We’re ready for them but that’s over with. We’ve got all of our preparation, we’re not thinking about them right now. We’re thinking about ourselves getting better fundamentally, know what we’re doing and focused on Jacksonville State. I can guarantee that, regardless of what (Secondary) Coach (Harlon) Barnett says.”
