MSU softball has hired an assistant coach who formerly staffed at Purdue and Oklahoma's softball programs.
Assistant coach J.T. Gasso will participate in recruiting and player development, specializing in infield defensive play and hitting.
Gasso spent a season as assistant coach at Purdue during the 2013-14 season and helped lead the team to the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals.
Prior, he spent two seasons as a graduate assistant for Oklahoma's softball team.
Head coach Jacquie Joseph said Gasso will be an asset to the MSU softball team, with his past experiences giving him a "winning mindset."
"I am excited to add J.T. to our staff," Joseph said in a statement. "He's young and energetic, and brings a lot to our program. He has literally grown up in the game; those who spoke on his behalf raved about his vision, work ethic, and knowledge. He was a part of a national championship season and a history of national prominence at Oklahoma, and bringing a winning mindset to our program as we move forward. We are looking forward to when we will get our team back to campus so that we can begin preparing for the 2015 season."
Gasso commenced his duties Monday in time for the summer recruiting period.
