Campus buildings evacuated due to suspected gas leak

March 18, 2014

A number of buildings were evacuated on north campus just south of the Red Cedar River Tuesday morning because of a suspicious odor that investigators believed was a gas leak, according to MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor.

The buildings evacuated included Farrall, Erikson and Olds Halls, as well as the Administration building and the Main Library.

Investigators later determined the odor was from a bottle that broke in the chemistry building and vented outside through the fume hood.

Buildings were checked and students were allowed to return to class. The odor is non-hazardous and there is no threat to safety.
