Women's team up on Minnesota by 17 at halftime

The women’s basketball team outscored Minnesota 25-5 in the last nine minutes of the first half and enter halftime with a 38-21 lead in the Big Ten opener.

Junior forward Becca Mills has eight points and eight rebounds at the half, and senior guard Klarissa Bell also has eight points. Redshirt freshman guard Aerial Powers has seven points.

Senior guard Sari Noga leads the Gophers with six points.

Mills drained a 3-pointer to tie the game at 16-16, and redshirt junior center Madison Williams nailed a jumper two minutes later to give the Spartans the lead. Later, a 13-0 run helped MSU take a 35-20 lead with 48 seconds left.

Continuing the run of strong defensive games, the Spartans shot 48 per cent in the second half and held the Gophers to 30 percent.
