Volleyball earns at-large bid to NCAA tourney

The No. 19 MSU volleyball team earned an at-large bid to the first round of the NCAA Tournament, and will face Ohio in Lexington, KY in the first round on Friday, Dec. 6.

ESPNU aired the NCAA volleyball selection show on Sunday at 9:30 p.m, where the 64-team field was revealed.

The Spartans posted a 21-11 overall record during the regular season. The at-large bid marks the third straight tournament bid for MSU. Last year, the Spartans fell to Michigan in the Sweet Sixteen round.

Eight Big Ten teams will be represented in the tournament, tied with the Southeastern Conference for second-highest total number of tourney teams. The Pac-12 is first, with nine teams represented.

No. 2-seed Penn State is highest-seeded Big Ten team. Rounding out the conference is eight-seed Nebraska, No. 10-seed Minnesota, No. 12-seed Wisconsin, No. 13-seed Illinois, Michigan and Purdue.

The winner of Friday’s game will face either Duquesne or host 15-seed Kentucky in the second round.
