The MSU volleyball team took care of business, beating Ohio in straight sets (25-21, 25-22, 25-19) to advance to the second round of the NCAA Volleyball Tournament.

Senior middle blocker Alexis Mathews became the all-time MSU leader in block assists, finishing with five to go with 10 kills. Senior outside hitter Lauren Wicinski had 16 kills, four aces and nine digs. Junior libero Kori Moster had 15 digs.
The Spartans took the first set over Ohio, 25-21. Alexis Mathews had five kills and three blocks.
Ohio got out to an early 11-7 lead, but MSU scored four straight to tie at 11, forcing an Ohio timeout. Out of the timeout, MSU gained a 20-15 advantage after a service error and bad set committed by the Bobcats, followed by a double-block by freshman outside hitter CHole Reinig and Mathews and kill by Mathews.
Ohio managed to trim the score, 20-19, after a 4-0 run fueled by three kills. But the Spartans stood strong and closed the set out on a block by Wicinski and senior middle blocker Kelsey Kuipers.
MSU started the second set much stronger compared to the first, building a 10-4 lead early on. The Bobcats managed to cut it the three, 17-14, but MSU responded to build the lead back to six, 21-15.
The Spartans took match point with a 24-18 lead, but Ohio extended the set until MSU was able to close out. The Bobcats rattled off four-straight after three Spartan errors and an ace, but Mathews scored a kill to end the run and take a 2-0 match lead.
The third set was close, as both teams were relatively similar in score for the early going. The Spartans created separation midway through, taking a 21-17 lead after it was tied 15-15. Kuipers executed a single block at the end to win the set, 25-19.
