December 28, 2013

Following a lengthy holiday break, the women’s basketball team (7-5) will conclude the non-conference portion of the regular season on Sunday, taking on Colgate (4-5) at Breslin Center at 2 p.m.

It will be the first game-action for the Spartans since traveling to San Juan, Puerto Rico for the Puerto Rico Classic on Dec. 19-20, losing to No. 13 Oklahoma State on Thursday before topping Georgetown the following day, 67-54.

Junior guard Kiana Johnson posted her first career double-double in the win over the Hoyas, dishing 10 assists coupled with 10 points.

With a 5-1 home record, the Spartans have been tough to defeat within the walls of Breslin Center, where they average 85.8 points on 48.8 per cent overall shooting, 40 per cent from beyond the arc.

Lansing native and Waverly High School graduate Carole Harris is Colgate’s second-leading scorer, with 11.1 points per game. She leads the Raiders with 7.9 rebounds per game.

After Sunday, MSU will enter Big Ten season, facing Minnesota on the road on Jan. 4.
