In Puerto Rico, MSU women lose to Oklahoma State

December 19, 2013

The MSU women’s basketball team fell to No. 13 Oklahoma State, 63-57, Thursday evening in the Puerto Rico Classic.

The Spartans led 40-32 early in the second half, but couldn’t hold on as Oklahoma State tied the game at 46 with under eight minutes remaining.

Trailing 57-54 with 43 seconds left, junior forward Becca Mills grabbed an offensive board but committed a traveling violation, turning the ball over. Oklahoma State’s Tiffany Bias drained four free throws in the remaining seconds to clinch the comeback victory.

MSU (6-5) now has dropped four of its last five matches after a 5-1 start to the season. The Cowgirls remain undefeated, improving to 9-0 overall.

Senior forward Annalise Pickrel paced the Spartans with 15 points and seven rebounds. Junior guard Kiana Johnson had 11 points.

The Spartans will return to action tomorrow, facing Georgetown (6-3) in the second and last game of the Puerto Rico Classic at 2:30 p.m.
