President’s office of University of California announced Thursday that he has selected Kim Wilcox, MSU’s former provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, as the university’s ninth chancellor.

Should the UC Riverside Board of Regents give its approval, Wilcox’s appointment will begin on Aug. 19. With most universities, the chancellor fulfills presidential duties over the university in the same way MSU President Lou AnnaK. Simon provides. UCR is located about 50 miles outside of Los Angeles.

Wilcox had held the provost position at MSU since 2005. After announcing he would officially step down from position in January, Wilcox continued work for MSU through the Partnership to Cut Hunger and Poverty in Africa, which is based in Washington, D.C. Since his absence, June Youatt has taken over as Acting Provost, and the search for a new provost is expected to begin soon.

During his tenure as provost, Wilcox oversaw more than 200 of MSU’s academic programs. He also forged many international relationships for the university.
