The sizzling temperatures are set to continue throughout the end of the week, with temperatures peaking at 92 degrees on Thursday along with a 70 percent chance of thunderstorms on Friday, according to the National Weather Service. The forecast calls for mostly sunny skies Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

There is a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms on Thursday, as well.

Larry Irish, tradebook department manager at Student Book Store, 421 E. Grand River Ave., isn’t concerned about the weather affecting his business’ success; in fact he is excited for the heat wave.

“Strangely enough, we have found in the past that the hotter it is, the more crowded it is,” Irish said. “It seems that the heat brings people out.”

SBS will set up on Grand River Avenue between Charles and Division streets with books, school supplies, Vera Bradley merchandise and green and white garments of all sorts.

Four days out in the sun will be a nice change of pace for employees at La Bodega, 619 E. Grand River Ave., manager Kayla Holcomb said.

“We love art fair time and sidewalk sale time,” Holcomb said. “We look forward to it every year.”

Although it was not specifically designated for the Sidewalk Sales, Holcomb said the arrival of three shipments of new inventory from India will bolster the merchandise selection. Customers may anticipate buy-one, get-one free scarves, clearance jewelry, clearance bags and buy-three, get-one free shirts.

Despite residing in East Lansing for the past five years, MSU alumna Sarah Daniels said the Sidewalk Sales reveal that there’s much more to the city than meets the eye.

“It shows that I still don’t know all that East Lansing has to offer, which is what makes attending this event so attractive,” Daniels said.
